79,000 Overdose Deaths and Counting

It was bad before the virus hit. We were losing almost 70,000 drug users ever year from overdose. That's someone every ten minutes. Plus we were arresting someone for drugs every twenty seconds.

Now things have gotten much worse.

The graph below represents the provisional death count from overdose between May 2019 and May 2020: more than 79,000. And in May we had only just entered the COVID quarantine. These numbers will likely go much higher before they go down.

The overdose death numbers are updated regularly by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). You can access the latest counts HERE.

Everyone is not okay right now. The sooner we begin supporting one another and talking openly and honestly about our drug use, the better off we will be. Don't allow the shame programmed into all of us to prevent you from sharing your struggles. Love yourself and the drug users in your life.
